Briefing of China Import & Export Toys in 2006(Part 2: Market Analysis)
    (1) Main Export Countries and Regions

a. The United States have been the largest market on toys export of China for several years, which consumed USD 6.55 billion, 36.9% of the China toy exports volume in 2006, up to 13.2%, when compared to 2005;
b. The 25 countries of European Union ranked second (totaled USD 4.607 billion, shared 25.94% export market, up to 28.44% compared to 2005.). Among those countries, U.K., France, German and Spain totaled USD 2.917 billion, accounted for 16.4% of the China toy exports volume in 2006;
c. The third is Japan. It consumed USD 0.719 billion, shared 4% export market.

(2) Fastest Growing Export Countries

a. The United Kingdom is the fastest growing exporting country, up to 47.95% compared to 2005; exports amounted to 1.04 billion U.S. dollars.
b. The second is Brazil, an increase of 35.4% year on year; exports amounted to 64.13 million U.S. dollars.
c. The third are Russia and South Korea, up to 18.4% when compared to 2005, and exports to the two countries totaled 216 million U.S. dollars and 102 million dollars respectively.

(3) The Most Significant Decline in Export Countries

In 2006, China exported toys dropped most obviously in Australia (totaled 213 million U.S. dollars, a decline of 16.2% compared to 2005).

No Anti-dumping Duties on Chinese Cribs in Mexico
 

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Economy of Mexico announced that there would be no anti-dumping duties on Chinese cribs “Quinny” in Mexico. In October 2006, after the applications of several Mexican companies, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Mexico decided to start the administrative investigation procedures of anti-dumping on China cots. After six months, the Ministry of Economic Affairs decided to conclude the investigation and made a favorable decision for manufacturers in China.

China Commodity Catalogue Prohibited for Processing Trade Released
 

Announcement No.17, 2007 of Ministry of Commerce, General Administration of Customs and State Environmental Protection Administration, promulgating Commodity Catalogue Prohibited for Processing Trade, shall take effect as from Apr 26, 2007. 136 new articles are in the new catalogue. At the same time, a part of old catalogues are deleted. To know more, please visit

China's Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to Be More Competitive
 

In April 2007, American Express giant UPS announced its latest survey of SMEs in "UPS Asia Business Monitor". The Survey shows that 71% of the respondents thought that Mainland China's SMEs are more competitive than those of other countries or regions; 92% of the Asia SME leaders regard Mainland China in 2007 as the most enticing potential market in economic growth.

The annually published "UPS Asia Business Monitoring" is a study report based on comprehensive survey of competitiveness of the Asian SMEs. The third phase of the study published in 2007 interviewed more than 1,200 Asian SME leaders. SMEs are defined as companies’ scale of less than 250 employees. The respondents are from all industries, including toys and sporting goods, cars, gifts & household goods and other industries.

The Revised Chinese Safety Standards on Baby Carriage Started to Implement
  The Chinese New Baby Carriage National Standard is released. It started to implement on January 1st, 2007. The relevant 4 baby carriages compulsory standards are:

(1) GB14746-2006: safety requirements for bicycles for young children;
(2) GB14747-2006: safety requirements for child tricycles;
(3) GB14748-2006: safety requirements for wheeled child conveyances;
(4) GB14749-2006: safety requirements for baby walking frames.
